In the afternoon of May 18, 2015, Dr. Howard Alper, immediate past Chair of the Government of Canada’s Science, Technology and Innovation Council (STIC) and Professor of the University of Ottawa, delivered a lecture at 2015 Shanghai Science and Technology Festival at the invitation of Dr. Ming-Wei Wang. The event was organized by Shanghai Pudong Engineers’ Association, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Center for Drug Screening (NCDS) and the Chinese National Compound Library (CNCL). His lecture was followed a concert entitled “We and Tango” performed by “Take Five Quintet” from Shanghai Conservatory of Music which was enthusiastically reacted by the audience.

Prior to the event, Professor Alper visited SIMM, NCDS and CNCL and was warmly greeted by Drs. Hualiang Jiang (Director of SIMM), Yang Ye (Deputy Director of SIMM), Jia Li (Deputy Director of SIMM), Ming-Wei Wang (Director of NCDS and CNCL), Xin Xie (Deputy Director of NCDS) and Huaiyu Yang. He also candidly chatted with staff scientists and graduate students.
