Representing Novo Nordisk A/S, Dr. Palle Høy Jakobsen visited the National Center for Drug Screening (NCDS) and the Chinese National Compound Library (CNCL) between May 9 and May 10, 2012. Professor Ming-Wei Wang and his team members warmly welcomed this old friend who has a profound relationship with the compound library. As a director of business development at Novo Nordisk, Dr. Jakobsen worked tirelessly and made significant contributions to the donation of the small molecule library by Novo Nordisk to China, setting up a research collaboration between NCDS and WHO (World Health Organization) on diseases of poverty, establishment of the Novo Nordisk-Chinese Academy of Sciences Research Fund, founding of the Novo Nordisk-Peking Union Medical College Diabetes Research Talent Fund, as well as joint inauguration of SIBS-Novo Nordisk Translational Research Center for Pre-diabetes, etc. During the visit, he received a cordial reception by Professor Jian Ding, Director of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, discussed the executive plan of CNCL on the construction of large-scale peptide and siRNA libraries, and met with Professor Saijuan Chen, Director of Shanghai Institute of Hematology, relative to a new donation by Novo Nordisk to launch the "China Hemophilia Research Fund". After eye-witnessing the brand new state-of-the-art CNCL and thousands upon thousands of familiar compound samples, Dr. Jakobsen was deeply touched and openly displayed his joyce. He said that he will continue his relentless efforts to promote scientific cooperation and academic exchange between Denmark and China. Accompanied by Professor Ming-Wei Wang, Dr. Jakobsen also visited Shanghai Clinical Research Center and SIBS-Novo Nordisk Translational Research Center for Pre-diabetes, respectively, on May 10, 2010.
